Coldplay concert

Went to the Coldplay : Vida la Viva concert last night in Detroit. Pretty much my first real concert experience. Coldplay is my favorite band and I’ve been wanting to go to a concert, so I just could not pass up the chance.

So… It was amazing. I loved every minute of it.

They opened up with Violet hill, went right into Clocks then In My Place. I was instantly captivated. There was an enormous amount of joy and enthusiasm in the building. Chris Martin is just fun to watch move and jirate all over the stage and the melodic music and bouncing rythym just works.

The multimedia presentation was amazing. From giant bulbs hanging from the ceiling, changing color and displaying live video feeds of the band to the laser show. Well done.

The band itself was Gracious, fun loving and full of energy. At one point they walked from the stage down the side aisle (about 10 ft away from me) and went to a mini platform set up in the back lower bowl of the Palace and did a couple songs. It was pretty cool.

Favorite songs of the night.

Lovers in Japan – awesome song, but the multimedia video was cool as well as the paper butterflies dropping from the ceiling.

Death and all His friends – powerful lyrics. Really hit home with the huge audience.

Vida la viva – amazing feeling. Crowd really got into that one.

In my place – great crowd sing along

Clocks – yeah!

Everything else.

Here’s some pictures from my phone.

Coldplay – Viva La Vida

I got a chance to listen to the new coldplay album. My first impression was… This is Coldplay trying very hard not to sound like Coldplay and I wasn’t very impressed, because I pretty much have liked everything they’ve done especially their first two albums. On second/third listen I could appreciate it for what it was. There’s about 4-5 songs I like, which is good for an album.

My favorites…

Violet Hill, Death and All his friends, Viva La Vida, Strawberry Swing.

I might grow to like it more as I listen to it more. They’ve added a lot more sound to this album, varying instrumentation, a lot of layers. Sounds very worldly – you can here russian, middle eastern, spanish, oriental influences etc… They got away from the driving rythyms, entrancing melodies – simplistic instrumentation. A lot of their earlier stuff relied heavily of the Lead singers voice – he carried it. This time I felt like he gets drowned out…takes the back seat.   I like their older stuff better – but they can’t do everything the same. I’m sure they get bored doing the same thing over and over and have to find ways to reinvent themselves. Their last two albums have gotten progressively worse. I predict their next release will be Smashingly Brilliant.  Still worth the purchase if you’re a Coldplay fan.
