Still alive…

Well just wanted to say I’m still alive.  I’ve had a busy couple weeks and haven’t had any time to write a post.

Things are going well.  I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

Here’s a dump of random thoughts just dieing to get out.

Enjoyed Lost last night…it’s getting crazy.  No need to try to decipher the metaphors any longer.  Just trying to enjoy it.

My cousin Craig (who lives in Grand Rapids) called me this week.  We probably haven’t talked in over a year.  It was good to hear from him.  He just bought a Mac and we were sharing the love.  It was funny talking to him, because he went through all the OS experiences I did before making the switch.

Been playing my guitar a lot the last couple weeks.  It’s my new, old obsession again.  I’ve got a regular schedule now.  It goes something like:  Tv shows, movies, video games, computers, music, books, guitar.  When I bore with one I jump into the next one.  One of my friends made a great observation about my life habits about a month ago.  She said I need to learn moderation.  That’s so true.

I’m getting better on the guitar though.  I might even attempt to play at small group in the next few weeks.  I’m no virtuoso, but I can carry a tune at least.  The hardest part for me is singing and playing at the same time, when I do…I mess both of them up.

I’m kind of excited about next Tuesday’s Primaries.  I’m curious to see who’s going to come out with wins in Ohio and Texas.

Have a great weekend.

A Great Idea…

I just had this great idea yesterday that is going to forever change my life.

Do you floss your teeth regularly?  If so, great your awesome and I’m sure you make your dentist very happy.

I’ll confess I don’t do it that often because of time.  Time you say?  What it takes like 2 minutes!  Yes I know, but I brush my teeth right before I go to bed.  So I’m tired, to the point of when my head hits the pillow I’m out.  The last thing I want to do is floss.

But yesterday I had a great idea.  Why floss right before bed?  You can floss anytime you want.  Why not floss when you’re at work?  Brilliant!!!

We have a single bathroom I can go in a couple minutes floss my teeth and hey, it’s a great break for a few minutes.

So there you go…that’s my great idea.

Tax Return!!!

I just got my tax return today!  On top of it already being payday.

Any ideas how I should foolishly waste my money?

Coincidental Convergence

Last week I put up a post about my favorite song by Derek Webb one of my favorite artist.  The other day I was talking with a friend about books he’s reading and he’s in the middle of Blue like Jazz by Donald miller.  Which was a great book.

Oddly enough today I was looking through podcast and came across Derek Webb’s podcast, which happened to feature an interview with Derek and Donald Miller.  Cool stuff…go to itunes and check it out Derek and Don are smart fellas.

One great thought that Derek threw out when he was asked a question about social justice movement.  I think it applies to a lot of areas in our lives.

Here’s a summary….in my words…don’t hold it against Derek if what I say doesn’t make sense….Listen to the podcast.

Some people say that God will judge us for our lack of help/support/compassion for the poor (ie. Situations in Africa: Rwanda, Sudan, etc..)  God already has passed judgement….on Jesus.  Jesus died for our sinful attitude toward the poor, destitute, etc…  But Jesus also fulfilled all God’s requirements that we can’t, he loved the poor perfectly.  We shouldn’t serve the poor out of duty or obligation to fulfill what we think is God’s requirement.  But we can and should….serve them with Freedom and liberation.

OK…it sure sounded much better when he was talking.  My apologies Derek for butchering this.

Anyway go check it out….

It’s a Dave Matthews Day…

I’ve decided it’s a Dave Matthews Day for me today. I think I pretty much have everything of his out there….so I’ve set my Ipod on Artist shuffle all songs and enjoying.

Some of my favorites…

Gravedigger, Stay or Leave, Crash into me, Bartender, Digging a Ditch, Grace is Gone, Save Me, The Space Between, Where are you going…just to name a few.

I’ll try to add a couple of the tunes to this post when I get home later tonight now that I’ve figured out how to do it.

Gravedigger

Bartender

My son got me going this morning on the way to work. He was flipping through my Ipod and came across a lot of Dave Matthews and wanted to listen a bit. So I gave him a little musical education.
