I hate voicemail…

Is it just me or does anyone else hate voicemail?

First, I hate leaving them on someone elses phone.  When the beep goes off I just freeze up, my tongue gets tied, I jarble (don’t know if that’s a word, but it sounds cool) up all my words.  OK – I’m not the quickest thinker, I like to take my time, think about and prepare what I want to say.  So I leave some pretty lame messages that make me sound really stupid.  I hate voicemail.

Second, I hate listening to voice mails.  My wife, God bless her, is one of the people that leave a voice mail every time you miss their call.  Why?  Most times, I know when I missed a call.  Sometimes, I even miss calls on purpose.  Because I’m at work and can’t talk.  Maybe I’m in a meeting.  Maybe I’m talking to someone else.  Maybe I’m busy playing xbox with friends or something.  I know you called, my phone tells me I missed your call.  When I get free, I’ll call you back.  I would rather talk to you in person anyway then listen to your voice mail.  Besides, most voice mails just say something like… “Hey its [insert name], call me back”.

Needless to say…I don’t check my voice mails that often.  Maybe once a week.  I hate the dialing, the menu, the password, the menu, the broken messages, the menu, all while driving.  More then likely I’ve already talked to the person, so it’s just deleting the messages any way.

So the real reason for the post…

I came across something cool for those of us that hate managing there voice mails through the phone.

it’s called callwave .  You can setup a couple different options, some of which may work better for you then others.  You can have emails sent you, with the names & numbers of the voice mails.  You can have text messages sent to you with the name & number, rather then just the standard “You have 2 voice mails”.  Or you can have a widget on your desktop that shows you the voice mails you have and allows you to listen to them in the order you choose. callwave

I like the widget option.  Since I sit at my computer pretty much all day.   So far it works pretty cool.  The message come as fast as they do through the standard voice mail system.  I’ll have to give a try.  I’ve turned off the email and text message notification.  If I missed your call I’ll call you back, if you leave a message I’ll get to it when I can.

i HATE voicemail too -though only on the receiving end. i love to leave long rambling messages and phil always makes fun of me and my friends for leaving such long messages- a lot of times i use voicemail to keep in touch with friends that are far away – and sometimes i hope to get someones voice mail because i want to seem like a good friend without having to have a conversation! don’t tell. with friends that i see and talk to on a regular basis i rarely listen to voice mails but just call them back when i see the missed call = theres always the “did you get my message” and me saying -nope, just calling back.
about getting them though – if i get them from those few friends who call once a month and our primary way to keep in touch is VM i like them – but if it is someone i talk to a lot or phil i usually never listen to the whole thing and cannot stand when they pile up on my phone. the worst part is when you see a missed call, call the person back and have the conversation, and THEN the voice mail is just rotting on your phone bugging you because it is there and you have to go through all the steps to delete it. the worst vm is “call me back” – ha ha!
phil can’t stand when there are messages blinking on the home phone, but i’ll let him comment on that if he wants….
